Ishod Wair doesn’t need an introduction. He’s fully cemented in the skateboarding hall of fame, and has transcended the sport into being the face of major fashion campaigns, as well as using his almost obsessive quality of mastering a trade to dial in his photography.
Ishod’s by far one of the most influential street skateboarders in the world, however, he’s more than just a skater. He throws his all into everything, making it his mission to understand the technicalities behind his interests. A self-confessed nerd, he goes as crazy for camera gear from the sixties as he does finesse his tricks. Nowadays, he doesn’t like to be pigeon-holed as ‘just a skater’, because, as you’ll see from this latest episode, the man is so much more to offer.
Ishod’s big break came in his video part in Real- Since Day One. It was the moment that signified his move from amateur to professional skater. After that, he entered Street League Skateboarding, made nine club appearances and made it to four finals. His successes are endless, but in 2013 he won Thrasher Skater of the Year with his video parts, The SB Chronicles Vol. 02, Chronicling Ishod: The Prequel, Fourstar's Wair 'N' Tear and Sabotage 3 Remix.
“There’s always going to be something to work on. There’s always going to be something to sharpen.”

But what makes Ishod great? There’s an element of being a natural sportsman, yes, but beyond that there’s the tenacity to perfect everything he does. His brain constantly seeks a greater understanding. He gets a genuine thrill from researching the technicalities - the small stuff most wouldn’t sweat over. It’s this unique, self-labeled nerdiness that sets him apart, whether that’s on a board or picking up a film camera from the sixties.
“I am completely and utterly addicted to the gear aspect of photography.”

Over the last decade, he has achieved a phenomenal amount, both in his sport and the arts - but he refuses to stop learning, perfecting and understanding the crafts that pique his interests. That’s why he’s unstoppable, and that’s why he’s pretty contagious to be around. This latest episode of Pack Heavy, Chase Light is a celebration of skating, street culture and throwing your all into new things. Afterall, the only limiter to greatness is yourself.
