Lucy Hickling:
The 25-year-old Creative Director behind Fred again.. & more.

Pack heavy, Chase Light S03E09

Described by Fred again.. himself as an ‘absolutely mental human being’, Lucy Hickling is one of those people guaranteed to make a lasting impression on you.

Lucy Hickling is one of those people you meet and just end up hanging on their every word. You won’t say much, you’ll just absorb. At 25, she has built a career for herself many would dream of. It’s not luck that’s got her where she is – it's hard graft, genuine talent and, realistically, her f_ck it attitude.

‘She thinks like a brilliant seven-year-old. Everyone wants to keep that child-like creativity. If you can keep that intact, it’s a superpower.’ - Fred again..

If you can keep up with the speed at which Lucy Hickling’s brain operates and stay abreast of the realm of ideas she is able to spit out in a few short hours, you’ll walk away from your conversation with her enriched and inspired. If you can’t keep up, like most of us, you’ll still leave feeling a buzz you didn’t have before. You won’t be entirely sure about what was said, or how you managed to fit so many conversations into such a short space of time, but you’ll know she’s brilliant and someone you’re going to want to try and match pace with.

As Fred again..’s Creative Director, Lucy clocks the miles. LA one week, Sydney the next – she's always on the move. Luckily, this is a lifestyle that suits her. She says herself that she gets bored easily, and after just spending a day in her company we couldn’t ever imagine her working a 9-5 office job.

"You can always be better. I always say to people I don’t think I’ve got better than a four out of ten. I’m not even being a dickhead when I say that. If I was better than a four out of ten, it would be boring because I wouldn’t have anywhere to go."

Lucy’s got to where she is through being equal parts brilliant and capable, but also because of her refreshing devil-may-care attitude. She’s pretty adamant that she can’t view herself as an artist because she likes to create for others and not herself, but she has an amazing ability to be totally comfortably trying something out-there and outrageous and just watching in the wings to ‘see if it works’. If it does, great – it's 1-0 to Lucy, if it doesn’t, it’s just chalked as a learning and the next idea is already in production.
